Elester Medical Building in San Jose is located near Good Samaritan Hospital and is one in a long line of medical buildings built by C.M. Peletz Co. for the Samaritan Medical Center group.
Built in the mission style the 51,000 square foot building includes an underground parking garage. The shell consists of structural steel over the poured-in-place concrete parking structure with wood infill. The exterior is a Dryvit material with a tile roof.
Challenges to the project included the radiused exterior wall which follows the shape of Samaritan drive, the excavation, shoring and installation of the underground parking garage which extends out to the sidewalk edge. The variable air volume HVAC system which allows for a quiet building, and the coordination with the utility company on a very tight site to install a new electrical service were also complex undertakings.
Several medical office tenant improvements were installed upon completion of the shell by C.M. Peletz Co. including a hearing center and a plastic surgery center.
